Is Your Oregon Doctor in Network for 2027?

Oregon Medicare members get care from a wide mix of health systems, from OHSU and Legacy Health in Portland to Salem Health in the mid-valley and PeaceHealth in Lane County. Medicare Advantage networks are set plan by plan, and they can change from one year to the next. Before you choose 2027 coverage, confirm that your doctors and hospital are included.

NW Senior Insurance Solutions is not affiliated with or endorsed by any health system named in this article. Names appear only to help you recognize where you get care.

How your coverage uses networks

Coverage typeHow doctors and hospitals work
Original MedicareAny doctor or hospital in the United States that accepts Medicare. Most Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policies follow the same rule. Medicare SELECT policies are the exception: they can require network hospitals, and sometimes network doctors, for full benefits.
Medicare Advantage HMOGenerally the plan’s network only, except for emergency care, out-of-area urgent care, and temporary out-of-area dialysis. Specialists may require a referral.
Medicare Advantage PPOProviders outside the network are usually allowed at a higher cost. Out-of-network/non-contracted providers are under no obligation to treat plan members, except in emergency situations. Call the plan’s customer service number or see its Evidence of Coverage for more information, including the cost-sharing that applies to out-of-network services.

Five steps to check your Oregon doctors

1. List every provider and location

Include your primary care provider, specialists, the hospital you would choose, lab and imaging sites, and your pharmacy. Large systems have many clinics, and arrangements can differ by location.

2. Ask the billing office a precise question

“Will Dr. ___ at this clinic be in network with this specific Medicare plan in 2027?” Then ask which hospital that doctor uses.

3. Search the plan’s 2027 directory

Confirm you are looking at the 2027 directory for the exact plan name. Plans from the same company can have different networks.

4. Add your prescriptions

Medicare Plan Finder shows plans in your ZIP code and estimates drug costs. Check doctors and drugs together.

5. Write it down

Note who confirmed each doctor and when. For a doctor you cannot do without, confirm with both the office and the plan.

Oregon health systems, region by region

  • Portland metro. OHSU, Legacy Health, Providence, Kaiser Permanente, and Adventist Health Portland each contract separately with individual plans. A system’s hospital, primary care clinics, and specialty groups may not all have the same arrangements.
  • Mid-valley. In Marion and Polk counties, Salem Health is a major hospital system. If you also see specialists in Portland, check both.
  • Lane County. PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend and McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center are both in Springfield. Services at some Eugene-area locations have changed in recent years, so confirm the specific service and location you plan to use.
  • Yamhill County and the Gorge. Willamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville, Providence Newberg Medical Center, and Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital serve these areas. Many residents also travel to Portland for specialty care.
  • Kaiser Permanente. Kaiser is both an insurer and a care provider. If you get care at Kaiser facilities, ask Kaiser directly how they work with the coverage you are considering.

2027 changes to watch

Providence Health Plan is ending its Medicare Advantage plans after 2026, and some other plans have announced network changes involving Providence facilities. Even if you keep your current plan, check your doctors before December 7. What Providence members should know.

Frequently asked questions

Why don’t you publish which plans each hospital or clinic accepts?

Networks are specific to each plan, each provider, and sometimes each location, and they can change from year to year and during the year. Medicare also has rules about how agents may advertise plan details. The accurate answer for you comes from checking your own doctors against specific plans, which we do with you one-on-one.

My doctor accepts Medicare. Is that enough?

No. Accepting Original Medicare is different from being in a Medicare Advantage plan’s network. Ask about the specific 2027 plan.

What if no plan includes all of my doctors?

You may have trade-offs to weigh. Original Medicare with a separate Part D plan lets you see any provider that accepts Medicare. Most Medigap policies follow the same rule, but Medicare SELECT policies can require network providers for full benefits. Your enrollment rights, budget, and health needs all matter.
