Is Your Clark County Doctor in Network for 2027?

Clark County sits on both sides of a decision. Many people see doctors at Vancouver Clinic, PeaceHealth, Legacy Salmon Creek, or Kaiser Permanente close to home, and many also cross the river for care in Portland. Medicare Advantage networks are set plan by plan and can change from one year to the next, so it pays to check every doctor, on both sides of the Columbia, before you choose 2027 coverage.

NW Senior Insurance Solutions is not affiliated with or endorsed by any health system named in this article. Names appear only to help you recognize where you get care.

Your plan follows where you live, not where your doctor is

Medicare Advantage plans are offered by county of residence. If you live in Clark County, you choose from plans offered in Clark County, even if your cardiologist or surgeon is in Portland. Whether a Washington plan includes the Oregon doctors and hospitals you use is a separate question you need to ask, by name, for each provider.

Original Medicare works differently. You can see any doctor or hospital in the country that accepts Medicare, in either state. Most Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policies follow the same rule. Medicare SELECT policies are the exception: they can require network hospitals, and sometimes network doctors, for full benefits.

Clark County care, and what to ask

  • Vancouver Clinic. A large multispecialty group with locations across the county. Ask about your specific doctor and location, not just the clinic name.
  • PeaceHealth. PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver is the area’s largest hospital. Several former Providence clinics, including Esther Short, Camas, and Mill Plain, became PeaceHealth clinics in January 2025. If your doctor moved with that change, make sure you search for them under PeaceHealth. PeaceHealth announcement.
  • Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center. Legacy’s hospital in north Vancouver. Legacy also operates hospitals and clinics in Portland, and arrangements can differ by location.
  • Kaiser Permanente. Kaiser is both an insurer and a care provider with medical offices in Clark County. If you get care at Kaiser facilities, ask Kaiser directly how they work with the coverage you are considering.
  • Portland specialists and hospitals. If you see doctors at OHSU, Providence, or Legacy hospitals in Portland, check each one against any Washington plan you are considering.

Five steps to check your doctors for 2027

  1. List everyone. Primary care, specialists in both states, your preferred hospital, lab and imaging sites, and your pharmacy.
  2. Call each billing office. Ask: “Will Dr. ___ at this location be in network with this specific Clark County Medicare plan in 2027?”
  3. Search the plan’s 2027 directory. Use the exact plan name and the 2027 plan year. Plans from the same company can have different networks.
  4. Add your prescriptions. Medicare Plan Finder shows Clark County plans and estimates drug costs.
  5. Keep a record. Note who confirmed each doctor and when. Directories can lag behind contract changes.

2027 changes in Southwest Washington

Providence Health Plan is ending its Medicare Advantage plans after 2026, and some other plans have announced network changes involving Providence facilities. Even if you plan to keep your current coverage, check your doctors before December 7. What Providence members should know.

Washington also has its own Medigap rules that can give you more flexibility than in most states. Read why you can switch Medigap plans in Washington.

Frequently asked questions

Why don’t you publish which plans each hospital or clinic accepts?

Networks are specific to each plan, each provider, and sometimes each location, and they can change from year to year and during the year. Medicare also has rules about how agents may advertise plan details. The accurate answer for you comes from checking your own doctors against specific plans, which we do with you one-on-one.

Can I keep my Portland doctors with a Washington plan?

It depends on the plan and the doctor. Some plans include providers across the state line and some do not. Confirm each Oregon doctor and hospital with the plan before you enroll.

My doctor’s clinic changed names. Does that matter?

It can. When a clinic changes ownership, its contracts with Medicare plans can change too. Search the plan directory under the clinic’s current name and confirm with the office.
